Ah, Spring!
It's time to come out of hibernation and get active again. Just as the earth comes alive at this time of year, it's time to rev up our activity level and celebrate the newness of the season. It's time to clean house and tend to gardens, lending nature a hand and to shape ourselves up by bringing more awareness to our health and vitality. The freshness and newness of the season naturally brings a lift to our outlook and beckons us to renew and refresh our surroundings and ourselves.
"If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." ~ Anne Bradstreet

*Our "pose of the month" for April is Ardha Chandrasana or Half Moon. The moon has a rich symbolic significance in yoga mythology. In hatha yoga, for example, the sun and the moon represent the two polar energies of the human body. In fact, the word hatha itself is often divided into its two constituent syllables, "ha" and "tha", which are then esoterically interpreted as signifying the solar and lunar energies respectively. (are-dah chan-DRAHS-anna) ardha = half candra = glittering, shining, having the brilliancy or hue of light (said of the gods); usually translated as "moon".

Continue to develop your bond with your baby in new and exciting ways. Open to all moms with pre-crawling babies. We suggest starting any time after 6 weeks post-partum. A 4 week series is scheduled to start on Tuesday April 20, 2010. This series of classes will take place every Tuesday morning for 4 weeks from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The cost for the 4 classes is $52 + gst. We ask that you pre-register so we know we have enough participation to run this class.
*Kirtan: Saturday April 17, 2010 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come out and chant! This event is offered "in service" which means, our musicians donate their time and talent and no admission is charged, in other words, this event is free. Tea will be served.
"The words of these chants are called the divine names and they come from a place that's deeper than our hearts and our thoughts, deeper than the mind. And so as we sing them they turn us towards ourselves, into ourselves. They bring us in, and as we offer ourselves into the experience, the experience changes us. These chants have no meaning other than the experience that we have by doing them. They come from the Hindu tradition, but it's not about being a Hindu, or believing anything in advance. It's just about doing it, and experiencing. Nothing to join, you just sit down and sing." Krishna Das
Note: if it is uncomfortable for you to sit on the floor (we have bolsters/blankets etc.), please bring along a lightweight folding chair or backjack if you have one.

Partner Yoga Class! presented by Mandy and John
Are you looking for something to do for a date night or perhaps you'd like to treat your mom to something different for Mother's Day? On Saturday May 8th from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. we are holding a special and fun partner yoga class. In this class, we will use the support of a partner to build a foundation and take us deeper into asana with trust, ease and fun. We will do the poses together - assisting each other through the touch of hands, feet, body, breath, eye contact, and wordless communication. Your partner can be your lover (the date night!), your friend, a family member (mom - because Sunday May 9th is Mother's Day), someone you just met - anyone you are comfortable with or, if you want to push yourself - someone who you are not comfortable with!
Many of you will remember our instructors for this class – Mandy Sheen and John Buchanan who both used to teach at Heart Centre Yoga! The cost for this class is $30 + gst for the two of you, (that works out to $15.75 each). Please pre-register by calling the studio (604) 294-4954 or emailing info@heartcentreyoga.ca
