Autumn Newsletter 2009 - September schedule, Labour Day hours

Greetings,

Autumn! A red maple leaf greeted me at the doorstep the other day and you can feel it in the air on the odd morning already. Autumn can be a season of fading and sometimes of sadness as all around us things seem to be withdrawing when only days or weeks ago they were thriving and growing. Rather than thinking of this season as one of departure, it can be thought of as one of transition and important change, a time when we can pause and be assured that although summer is passing, the cool lull of fall brings us a season of rest. Autumn is also a time of thanksgiving and a chance to enjoy the fruits of our summer labour, a time to cool down from our busy summer activities, return to routine  and prepare for the next round of seasons - a beautiful change that is part of the experience of living.

* Our first ever Customer Survey was a great succes, thank you for your participation and feedback Because of some of your feedback you'll notice a few changes in the autumn schedule (attached) and we'll continue to work with the information you provided to make your experience at Heart Centre Yoga a good one.  Printed copies of the schedule are available at the studio and a downloadable version from our web site will be available in the next few days too.

* A reminder that Bernie Clark's talk entitled (please) Mind The Planet takes place Sunday August 30th from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the VanCity Theatre, 1181 Seymour St, Vancouver. Attendance is by donation: all proceeds go to the David Suzuki Foundation, however this is not a presentation by the DSF. There will be representatives of the David Suzuki Foundation on hand to answer questions before and after the presentation. People can pay whatever they can - suggested donation is $10.

(please) Mind The Planet is a presentation about what is happening to our climate (from a scientific point of view), the consequences of climate change, why so many people are confused about what is happening, and finally and most importantly, what we can do to reduce the risks we are taking. This presentation is geared towards people who are not sure what is happening with our climate, perhaps because of all the controversy in the media, and towards those who already know and care about the climate change we are experiencing and will experience, but aren't sure how to talk about it or what to do about it. Unlike many other presentations, (please) Mind The Planet not only presents the science of climate change but also debunks the common myths surrounding the issue and provides a mindfulness practice that can have big impact. This mindfulness practice includes 3 Big Easy things we can all do: they are simple and yet quite powerful in helping to live a happy and contented life today, and ensure that we are not risking the future for the next generation. Anyone who has children, want children or who cares about what will be happening to other people's children will want to watch this presentation.

* Mark Saturday September 19th, 2009 in your calendars! To celebrate the fall season, the Global Mala and our second year in business (yippee and thank you!), yoga classes will be free on that day so bring a friend or family member along to experience yoga.  We'll also be hosting an open house in the late afternoon/early evening and doing a final Shanti Uganda jewellery sale before Natalie leaves for Uganda again. We're going to have a pot luck - Heart Centre Yoga will provide entree and one desert. A sign-up sheet will be available at the studio for anyone who would like to contribute a favorite dish or you can email me debbie@heartcentreyoga.ca.  More details on this soon.
