Greetings friends, neighbours, fellow yogis and yoginis,
"In our deepest moments of struggle, frustration, fear, and confusion, we are being called upon to reach in and touch our hearts. Then, we will know what to do, what to say, how to be. What is right is always in our deepest heart of hearts. It is from the deepest part of our hearts that we are capable of reaching out and touching another human being. It is, after all, one heart touching another heart."-- Roberta Sage Hamilton
Much appreciation to everyone who opened their heart and supported our fundraising drive to send aid to Haiti by either attending a class at the studio on January 15th and 16th (HCY contributed $2 on behalf of each person who attended a class on those days) and/or by making a donation via the studio. Heart Centre Yoga sent over $800 to Doctors Without Bordershttp://www.msf.ca/ and many of you emailed indicating that you had already made a donation via another agency - thank you for stepping either onto or off your mat to make a change in our world.
Our Pose of the Month for February is not an Asana but a Chakra, and that presents us with many avenues for discovery. Since February 14th brings us Valentine's Day - the day of love - the Anahata or Heart Chakra will be our focus. The heart chakra is the seat of balance within the body. Anahata chakra has twelve petals. The Yantra in the centre of the chakra is composed of two overlapping, intersecting triangles. One triangle faces upwards and symbolized Shiva, the male principle. The other triangle, facing downward, symbolizes Shakti, the female principle. A balance is attained when these two forces are joined in harmony and from this place we can achieve many things. There is so much to explore on this topic through philosophy, asana and meditation; we're going to have a great time with this one (Heart Centre Yoga studio was created from this powerful place)!
* Kirtan: Saturday February 20, 2010 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come out and chant! This event is offered "in service" which means, our musicians donate their time and talent and no admission is charged - this event is free.
"The words of these chants are called the divine names and they come from a place that's deeper than our hearts and our thoughts, deeper than the mind. And so as we sing them they turn us towards ourselves, into ourselves. They bring us in, and as we offer ourselves into the experience, the experience changes us. These chants have no meaning other than the experience that we have by doing them. They come from the Hindu tradition, but it's not about being a Hindu, or believing anything in advance. It's just about doing it, and experiencing. Nothing to join, you just sit down and sing." Krishna Das
Attention all 30 Day Yoga Challenge Participants. In order to qualify for the 30 Day Yoga Challenge prize draw, you must be in attendance at this event. Snacks and tea will be served.
Note: if it is uncomfortable for you to sit on the floor (we have bolsters/blankets etc.), please bring along a lightweight folding chair or backjack if you have one.

Did you know:
Our heart communicates with the brain and body in four ways:
-
neurological communication (nervous system)
-
biophysical communication (pulse waves)
-
biochemical communication (hormones)
-
energetic communication (electromagnetic fields)
Have a hug: When people touch or are close to one another, one person's heart signal can affect the other's brain rhythms.
