Newsflash - updates August 9, 2009

Greetings,

Before getting into the announcements and reminders, I'd like to share with you the four "L" principles. Each day is a gift, Live it to the fullest by embracing all that it brings: food, breath, experience, ideas and change. Even on our busiest days there are moments of silence and peace, Listen for these moments and try to expand them, even for a bit, they will bring you closer to your spirit and the universal spirit. Laugh as often as possible; laughter releases tension and allows us to breathe better - find amusement in the challenges and in the mundane, risk a laugh at yourself once in awhile. Open your heart to Love - the shields we build to protect our hearts also block out the joy; be authentic, speak your truth, be open to giving and receiving love.

We've received some great feedback to our first ever Customer Survey - thank you!  This survey remains open until August 16th, 2009 so if you haven't responded yet, we'd really like to receive your input about the studio and the yoga classes we offer to ensure we are meeting your needs.  For instance, some of you are looking for early morning classes (6 a.m.), longer classes or would like more distinction in class descriptions - are these things that you'd like too? All responses provided are confidential and will be used to enhance the services at Heart Centre Yoga.  There's a $10 thank you coupon to put towards a pass or punch card at the end of the survey - simply print out the last page of the survey before you click on "finish" and redeem the coupon at the studio when you are ready to purchase.  You can access our survey by clicking on this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Tdpe80hMk3b4yWbK_2fPvPVQ_3d_3d  or from the front page of our web site www.heartcentreyoga.ca.  (You will be directed to our survey on the secure "Survey Monkey" website.)

The fee for all sessions is $125 (GST included).  Register before October 1, 2009 and save $25. The course is taught by Prabhat, a certified yoga instructor who has practiced Raja Yoga for 25 years under the direction of Baba Hari Dass.  The classes will take place at Heart Centre Yoga. If you missed Bernie Clark's talk entitled "Yoga For Our Planet" at Heart Centre Yoga back in March, here's another chance to hear this important presentation - (note, this presentation has been renamed.)

(please) Mind The Planet is a presentation about what is happening to our climate (from a scientific point of view), the consequences of climate change, why so many people are confused about what is happening, and finally and most importantly, what we can do to reduce the risks we are taking. This presentation is geared towards people who are not sure what is happening with our climate, perhaps because of all the controversy in the media, and towards those who already know and care about the climate change we are experiencing and will experience, but aren't sure how to talk about it or what to do about it. Unlike many other presentations, (please) Mind The Planet not only presents the science of climate change but also debunks the common myths surrounding the issue and provides a mindfulness practice that can have big impact. This mindfulness practice includes 3 Big Easy things we can all do: they are simple and yet quite powerful in helping to live a happy and contented life today, and ensure that we are not risking the future for the next generation. Anyone who has children, want children or who cares about what will be happening to other people's children will want to watch this presentation.

This presentation will take place on Sunday August 30th from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the VanCity Theatre, 1181 Seymour St, Vancouver. Attendance is by donation: all proceeds go to the David Suzuki Foundation, however this is not a presentation by the DSF. There will be representatives of the David Suzuki Foundation on hand to answer questions before and after the presentation. People can pay whatever they can - suggested donation is $10.

There are only a few Friday night Karma yoga classes left, Sara Blaney (one of our wonderful sub teacherswill lead the class this Friday  August 14th and on August 21st, Prabhat will be leading the class (yes the same Prabhat leading the workshop), Debbie will be back on August 28th . These classes are by donation (suggested minimum is $5).
