Dear friends, neighbours and fellow yogis and yoginis,
This newsletter will update you with Christmas/New Year holiday hours, our new winter schedule effective Saturday January 2, 2010 as well as other happenings and upcoming workshops.
A big thank you to all who were able to attend our first ever Satsang on Saturday evening December 5th, 2009. More than 40 of you contributed and welcomed the holiday season in a peaceful way with kirtan (call and response chant), a reading and a meditation then socialed with some amazing holiday treats. Many thanks to all for providing your voices and treats and especially Prabhat and Sunita for leading the kirtan - your music was so special - and for guiding us through the events of the evening. So many of you indicated that you'd like to do it again, so we will offer a Kirtan on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Dates for the next two Kirtan are below in the body of the newsletter.
This time of year is not a happy one for many people. The longest day of darkness precedes the holidays of light and new beginnings. Take time to honour the dark and any sadness of the past year, it can be very healing. No matter what 2009 presented you with, try offering an act of kindness and compassion by reaching out to someone, it can even be a stranger - be generous from your heart - a gift can be a smile or a kind word and can make a real difference in a life and you'll energize your circle of abundance too.
Peace on Earth.
Namaste,
Debbie

* Kirtan: Saturday January 23, 2010 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come out and sing!
"The words of these chants are called the divine names and they come from a place that's deeper than our hearts and our thoughts, deeper than the mind. And so as we sing them they turn us towards ourselves, into ourselves. They bring us in, and as we offer ourselves into the experience, the experience changes us. These chants have no meaning other than the experience that we have by doing them. They come from the Hindu tradition, but it's not about being a Hindu, or believing anything in advance. t's just about doing it, and experiencing. Nothing to join, you just sit down and sing." Krishna Das
If you like to reserve time ahead in your calendar, the following month Kirtan will be held on Saturday February 20, 2010 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

* Many of our teachers are available to do private sessions and small focus groups. Coming in the new year Angela is planning on delivering monthly Anusara Inspired small group classes and workshops. Debbie has been studying yoga therapeutics and can work with you individually or in small groups of 2 to 4 participants (with same or similar issues) to focus on specific areas of the body or conditions to bring more ease into your practice. There are no asanas that you can't do, it's a matter of exploring and adapting to your uniqueness. One hour, one on one private yoga sessions are $65 + gst, small groups are the same price but you share the cost with the other participants. Please let us know via email or talk to us at the studio if there is a small group class you'd like to experience or if you'd like to book a private session.
